At American Cooler Technologies we are contacted daily by customers seeking walk in coolers, one of the most common coolers inquired about is a reach in cooler. Almost every convenience store across the country has, at the very least, one reach in cooler and some contain several. With that being said, it’s important for potential customers to understand what is involved in purchasing a reach in cooler set up. The following article will explain the steps involved to be sure you are getting exactly what you’re looking for. After all, we want nothing more than for our customers to be happy with their new purchase!
The first thing to consider is your dimensions. You will want to get precise measurements on what will fit in your space that you have set aside for your reach in cooler. Make sure to take into account a 2″ air gap. We always recommend a 2″ air gap the whole way around your walk in cooler to provide it room to breathe. When it comes to determining your dimensions, make sure you leave enough space for your shelving, and refrigeration coil(s). Most shelving that comes with glass display doors is 27″ deep, coils average around 15″ deep, for a total of 42 inches. Now, you don’t want your coil butting up directly against your shelving. Therefore, you would want your interior dimension of your width to be around 48 inches to provide ample room for all of your equipment.
Next, determine what size glass doors you want your reach in cooler to be outfitted with. Most glass door manufacturers provide doors that are 24, 26, 28, and 30 inches wide. For the heights, most are 67, 75, or 79 inches tall. Keep in mind that you must allow room for support. For example, if you want a set of five 30 inch wide doors, you would need a cooler that is 13’10” long. This is because the five doors with their frames have a net cooler opening (the total area taken up by the doors and their frames) of 12’10”, then you must factor in 6″ for support on each corner which gives you a total of 13’10” for your reach in cooler. When it comes to height of your reach in cooler, we recommend going with a height of 8′ if you have room. Eight feet is a standard height and will allow you to go with glass doors up to 79 inches in height. This will allow you to maximize your space to display the most product possible, which will in turn maximize your profits.
As you can see, there are a lot of variables to consider when planning out your reach in cooler. However, if you follow the information provided above, you should have no issues determining the right dimensions. If you have any questions or need any assistance, give American Cooler Technologies a call and we will be more than happy to assist you!
