Maintaining Your Walk In Cooler or Freezer
With winter in full-swing and spring fast approaching, now is a good time to get a head start on your routine walk in cooler or freezer maintenance. Like most things, routine maintenance is very important to the longevity of your unit. A well made walk in cooler requires very little maintenance of the cooler itself, but steps should still be taken to ensure its long life. Do a thorough visual inspection and check for any signs of damage. Also, look over your gaskets and make sure that they are in good working condition. Any damaged gasket should be promptly replaced as it will not form a proper seal.
Next, visually inspect your door hardware to make sure that it too is in good shape. Any door hardware that is damaged should quickly be replaced. This includes gaskets, latches and strikes, hinges and door closers. If you own a walk in freezer, check any heated areas such as your door perimeter heater and your threshold heater. Both of these items should be working and producing heat. If they are not working properly, ice build-up will occur and can severely damage your box.
It’s important to have your walk in cooler or freezer refrigeration system serviced at the recommended intervals. This routine maintenance will ensure that your refrigeration system is operating to its full potential. After all, with spring fast approaching your box is likely to be used more frequently and it’s important that it’s running at peak performance when that happens.
